Dear Parents and Guardians,
My name is Naomi Messam and I am undertaking a Masters in Educational Innovation at the University of Warwick. Relationships and sex education (RSE) formerly known as Sex and Relationships Education has been getting a lot of media attention lately due to the fact that the government is making Personal, Social, Health Education (PSHE) compulsory in schools. Relationships is at the forefront in order to emphasise the importance of developing and maintaining positive relationships in all aspects of life. As a result, I have chosen to focus my research on this topic, my central question being ‘What age is considered ‘appropriate’ for teaching RSE?’, I am focussing on the opinions of parents, guardians and teachers. Kings Norton Primary School have agreed to participate in my research which involves a questionnaire and interviewing a selection of willing participants.
Your input to my research is vital, it involves answering 20 questions that will be sent to you via email directly by the school. I will have no access to your personal information such as your email addresses. The questions are very specific with regards to your opinions on when certain topics should be taught in Relationships and sex education and your general view on this issue. The questionnaire dependent solely on your opinion with no right or wrong answer.
Please be aware that you are under no obligation to complete the questionnaire. However, the results from the questionnaire will help develop a new RSE policy in your school, so the more response we get will ensure that your children receive quality teaching in this area.
Questionnaires will be sent to your email today on Monday 15th January 2018 and if you can complete it on the day it would be very helpful. The questionnaires must be filled in at the latest by Friday 19th January and should take approximately 10 to 15 minutes to complete.
Please also find a copy of the link to the questionnaire below.
Thank you for your time.
